Frey Stair
Linking downstairs with a fresh, transparent connection enabled this family to discover the hidden use for an attic transformed into a bedroom. The design is inspired by my late mentor and friend: Albert Frey and the suspended stair that he created in the Salton Sea Country Club in 1958. I interpreted a central spine support in a steel armature and float solid poplar treads that are inlaid with steel nosing plates that rest on rods and tubes of my favorite plastic material: steel!
